GB's Most Successful World Mountain Bike Orienteering Champs ever!

With an unprecedented four individual GOLD's for Emily Benham-Kvale and a bronze and 6th for Clare Dallimore, coupled with a fifth in the Women's Relay, this was Britain's best ever World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships.

Emily's four medals were won on the widest range of terrain imaginable from complex old town urban Sprint to flat grid Danish forests for the Long. Her most impressive victory was in Ebeltoft with one of the trickiest and complex Middle Distance races ever staged. A cool head and focused flow brought her in just 5 seconds ahead of Veronika Kubínová the top Czech with World Champions Finn Marika Hara and Dane Camilla Sogard in joint bronze. This was a tough field but Emily kept her cool to win her second GOLD of the week. These were followed by an impressive margin in the Long, not formerly her strength and a GOLD in the fast paced butterflied Mass Start. Ian Nixon made the top 40 men in the Mass Start.

Jo Pickering joined Clare Dallimore and Emily to contest the Relay, with Jo off on the pressure first leg. She had her race of the week to bring GB back in 10th. Clare despite a few small errors pulled up to 7th and this left Emily on the third leg. An admirable race pulled GB up to fifth just behind Czech and Sweden in bronze.

Congratulations to Emily, Clare, Jo and Ian on their outstanding performances!
