Johnson Family JKs... continued... Part Two.

A selection of JK certificates from over the years.

A selection of trophy’s and prizes from over the years.

Jumping to modern times. Our latest JK was in 2018 at Stafford, it turned out to be a very memorable weekend but not always for the best. The 31st March was Stan and Verena’s 60th wedding anniversary and we, with Bridget, couldn’t think of anything better to do than spend it at a major orienteering event camping in our motorhome! Unfortunately, our motorhome and the weather combined to make it an interesting long weekend. When we got to our campsite, we were advised not to drive onto the grass otherwise we would sink – they weren’t joking. The first task was to collect as many rubber mats as we could carry to reverse onto. When we turned on our water an incorrectly fitted part decided to split ending up with us removing the carpets and ‘hanging them out to dry’ – not easy when it is nearly freezing! Never mind – we had a suitable container to get water in, for some reason though they had a bit of a problem on site and it tasted revolting – very annoying when you have a tank full of water you brought from home.

To celebrate on the 31st we treated ourselves to some rather tasty take-away meals to heat in the microwave (always big spenders!) for some unknown reason the microwave decided that this was the best time to decide to look as though it was working, but not to actually heat the food. I’m not sure how many people have tried putting their take-away meals into a pan and heating them through but it’s an interesting experience! Thankfully we do all have a sense of humour.

From an orienteering perspective Stan was very happy with his 3rd position overall.

To finish – a puzzle.

This is a prize from a JK – but which one?

The map is dated 1971, but was reprinted in the June of that year, so could not have been a prize from that year. The logo suggests that it might have been for a Day 2, in Scotland. The first event with a Day 2 was in 1980, but not in the area covered by the map.

Any ideas?  – we have been to too many JK’s to remember one from another!
