How have the current restrictions impacted on your training?

Grace: “The main impact has been not being able to travel to major races and training camps in the UK and abroad so I have been doing a lot less orienteering than I had planned. I’m mostly just running and trying to improve my physical ability. I’ve also not been able to train with other people but I’m fortunate to have my brother (Peter) to train with.”

What advice have you got for other athletes or members in a similar position?

Grace: “If you have more time than before then it is a great opportunity to work on your fitness. Being outside and exercising is, in my opinion, some of the best things to do at the moment so enjoy the chance to do those.”

What is your number one Lockdown training session?

Grace: “I’m lucky to be within running distance of a couple of maps so I’ve enjoyed being able to orienteer. In terms of a regular session, I’m a big fan of a Sunday long run.”

Have you still been able to access support from your coach or orienteering athlete friends, and if so how?

Grace: “I have been using social media to stay in touch with my orienteering friends and I have been using Zoom for group strength and conditioning sessions.”

What box sets have you been able to catch up on during Lockdown?

Grace: “Killing Eve, Noughts and Crosses, Race Across the World.”

Have you been doing any DIY tasks – anything you want to tell us about?

Grace: “Dad’s had us doing a bit of painting. Nothing too exciting really.”

Anything else you wish to share with members on any other aspects of Lockdown training?

Grace: “I took part in the Lockdown Orienteering Easter Championships also did the Sprint Weekend. Both of these have been great fun and an excellent way to keep up some orienteering skills. A big thank you is due to Chris Smithard for organising these - which is also raising funds for the GB squad.”

Thanks, Grace. All the best with your on-going training. Stay safe.
