Thank goodness lockdown has ended... and just in time for the great weather. Two weeks before the event, we hadn't received permission from City of York Council and the local SAGE so I called off the event only to reverse this when permission came through the day after. Eborienteers (EBOR) were in the middle of changing websites so the event was advertised to members and other newsletter subscribers by email and Facebook with only a 3-day window to enter.

There were two courses: a Long course (4.4km) and a 40-minute score; with a 31-minute start window (7 to 7.30 on a Tuesday evening) and we had 54 entries (27 on each course!). The area is a collection of woodlands around York racecourse, much used over the years for the most part but now boasting a new wood recently made available by the council for public use.

It was great to hold an April evening event wearing shorts and a T-shirt and to see all the happy, smiling and appreciative orienteers.

Many thanks to City of York Council who have been tremendously supportive of our sport since 1966 when their Youth Services department brought orienteering to the city youth clubs.

However, you have been taking part in orienteering, share your experiences with others who may not have re-started orienteering at their club yet.
