Course description

Safety Workshop for Coaches Working in Remote or Exposed Areas

A workshop for coaches who wish to upgrade their coaching licence to include working in remote or exposed terrain (those coaches who have a UKCC L2 or the old BOF L3/Club Coach qualifications.

Time scale: 3 hours (includes time for a short refreshment break if needed)

Definition:

A remote or exposed area is one that is complex and/or potentially exposed to bad weather, where there may be no clear boundaries or ready access to assistance or emergency vehicles. Examples can include sand dunes and forests as well as mountainous and moorland terrain.

 

Aims:

  • To understand what makes an area remote or exposed

  • To raise awareness of the challenges of coaching in remote/exposed areas

  • To help coaches prepare and plan for working in such areas.

  • To help coaches tackle the unexpected incidents that may arise in such areas.

 

Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop coaches should recognise features that make an area remote and/or exposed and be able to:

  • Undertake appropriate preparation

  • Plan appropriate safe exercises for the area

  • Tackle unexpected situations that might arise
