Course description: | Map: • 1:4,000 scale with 2.5m contours • Drawn by Ben Maliphant in 2022; updated by David Faulkner 2025 • Waterproof size A3 with courses overprinted. • Loose control descriptions will also be available. Newcomers are advised to familiarise themselves with uncrossable features and out of bounds symbols. (if in doubt ask at Assembly). Terrain: Urban footpaths, residential streets and other grass/unpaved areas. Road shoes with good grips (but not spikes), running shorts and vests should be suitable. Safety: Please wear reflective or bright-coloured clothing so you can be easily spotted when orienteering by drivers etc. Deep Water. The courses are planned around the Marina which has deep water and there are places without barriers. Courses have been designed with controls away from edges unless there is a barrier. Please keep away from the water’s edge. Sea Lock. The sea lock will be in operation during our event. This consists of two lock gates, only one of which is likely to be open to pedestrians as it is in operation. Because of this, there is a 1 minute timed-out crossing of the sea lock which means you will have sufficient time to cross the marina safely and without hurrying or clashing with other pedestrians – you must take care of both your own safety and that of locals when using the crossing. Please be respectful of other road users and pedestrians and mindful of dogs as the marina is very popular with dog walkers. Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. If travelling alone or with relevant pre-existing medical conditions you may wish to notify the Organiser. |
