Starting something completely new can feel overwhelming. But we are here to help!
Orienteering is an adventure; it's the treasure hunt that gets everyone thinking and working together as a team to reach all the markers on a special map. There is no set route, so it's up to you to decide which way to go.
Completing an orienteering course leaves you with a sense of achievement. It also boosts communication amongst your family and encourages your children to explore their local parks, green spaces and nature in a whole different light.

Purchase or download your map via the Go Orienteering website. If you want to use your phone, please access the MapRun app. A guide on how to use the app is available via this link.

Essentially, all you need is a comfortable pair of shoes (trainers/wellies if muddy).
Dress for the weather, especially if you are doing a longer course! A rain mac is always a good idea if you are doing a longer course.

Anyone and everyone can take part in orienteering. We have families pack babies into their carriers, and grandparents come along for the thrill of the sport. Don't forget to check out accessible-friendly courses and events on our website.

Exploring is great fun, but it's always important to us that you stay safe out there! If you are a member of British Orienteering, you are covered by our insurance. Here is another guide to staying safe out on the courses and at our orienteering events.

Need extra support with your orienteering journey as a family? Why not come along to your local club's events to find out more ways you can get involved in our friendly and welcoming community?

Thinking of joining us? Take a look at our family membership offer which is available for two Seniors and one or more Juniors.
