World Cup Round 1: Middle Race Results

21 June 2025

The World Cup continued in Sweden on Saturday, with the Men’s and Women’s Middle Distance event. Following Wednesday’s qualification event, the Men’s and Women’s races were once again split into A and B Finals similar to the long race held earlier in the week.

For both the Men’s and Women’s races, control 8 proved to be very decisive. Placed on a slope after a relatively long leg, the control cost so much time that many positions were lost in that area.

Luke Fisher was the only GB male in the A final finishing in 45th position, with Grace Molloy and Jo Shepherd finishing 35th and 61st in their respective A final.

The Men’s B final had four GB athletes in the top 10, with Alastair 3rd, Euan 5th, Josh 6th and Charlie 10th, while in the Women’s B final Alison Smithard was the highest placed British athlete in 6th, Niamh Hunter in 8th, Rachel Brown 12th and Chloe Potter 22nd

Joshua said: "It was very good fun, one of the best Middle Distances I've done in a long time! Really technical but I'm satisfied."

Similar in the Women's B-final with Alison Smithard (6th) and Niamh Hunter (8th) in the top 10 and Rachel only just outside in 12th.

Niamh said: "Tough at the start with oretty complex contours. It was much better than yesterday!"

Rachel: "There was some big time losses at the start, but it got better as it went on."
