Join the Safeguarding and Welfare Advisory Group

British Orienteering is currently recruiting new members for its Safeguarding and Welfare Advisory Group, including a new Chair.

This voluntary group meets 2 to 4 times per year and plays a vital role in shaping and supporting our safeguarding and welfare work across the sport.

We welcome applications from:

  • Club and association welfare officers (e.g. CWOs, AWOs)
  • Parents
  • Athletes
  • Young people (to attend with appropriate support)
  • External advisors and practitioners with safeguarding or welfare expertise

The group’s responsibilities include:

  • Developing, monitoring, and reviewing British Orienteering’s safeguarding plans for children, young people, and adults
  • Supporting implementation of the safeguarding plan across the organisation
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are in place and regularly reviewed
  • Overseeing education and training strategies
  • Establishing guidelines for training, support, and supervision
  • Ensuring effective communication of the group’s work and outcomes
