JWOC 2026: Sprint Results

29 June 2026

Day 1 of the Junior World Orienteering Championships 2026 began with the Sprint Race in Trossö, Karlskrona's historic centre. Here are the results.

The 2026 JWOC kicked off today with the individual sprint in Karlskrona.

Competitors were faced with a very technically demanding course in hot, humid conditions. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the arena with lots of GB supporters cheering on our athletes.

Our best results today were James Hammond in 33rd and Emily Atkinson in 59th. Emily reflected on her race, "I was happy with my flow in and out of the controls and having a plan for the whole race. Felt in control of my nav the whole time, which was good. Unfortunately, I picked very few of the quickest route choices, which was frustrating. It seems the more wriggly routes were actually the shortest, and I was choosing simpler routes instead, which turned out to be a lot longer and slower."
