IOF publishes Independent Investigation Panel Report on World Games 2025 Orienteering

The International Orienteering Federation has today published the final report from the Independent Investigation Panel concerning the organisation of the IOF Middle Distance event at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.
The report follows an extensive and detailed investigation commissioned by the IOF after the tragic events of 8 August 2025, when Italian athlete Mattia Debertolis collapsed during competition and later passed away.
British Orienteering's Performance Programme Coordinator - Graham Gristwood - was a key member of the 3-person panel who conducted the investigation.
The IOF once again expresses its deepest condolences to Mattia’s family, friends, and the wider orienteering community.
