We hope to engage someone as early as possible in the New Year in time for the Spring season. Ideally, the person taking the role would be located in OD's area or in easy travelling distance of it. The CDO will be engaged on a contract basis of £7500.00 per year.
The role is similar to that of the other Club Development Officers across the country in recent years. Recruiting new members is the primary focus of the role with our target demographic being Active Adults/Active Families, although not exclusively so. One of the first tasks will be to research the now considerable body of CDO initiatives and experience to identify what would be most likely to work for OD. The second key aspect of the role will be skills development of existing members and also to encourage and widen use of social media and communication within the club and with the public.

The full detail of the programme will be determined in conjunction with the DO when in post as some aspects will depend on the skills, experience and capabilities of the successful candidate. However, OD feels that the enthusiasm, efficiency, approachability, organisational qualities and personal communication skills are the principal facets required in order to create the right environment for success. The level of orienteering ability of a potential CDO is not considered to be the prime determinant although some experience would be an advantage. To many potential new members, the CDO will be the face of OD.
The time commitment over the year is up to 500 hours although the weekly commitment will vary quite a lot. It will be greater in weeks where the CDO is leading or supporting practical field sessions but much lower in other weeks. The detailed schedule can be flexibly tailored to suit the person taking the role and, other than the field sessions, much of it can be done remotely at any convenient time for the CDO.
