The Coach of the Year Award is awarded to a coach who that has demonstrated success in one or more of the following areas:
His patience and understanding, as well as humour, have motivated juniors to embrace the
challenges of the sport, and to believe in themselves and to love the sport of
orienteering.
Jon’s knowledge of the sport and performance, and the way he can relate this to everyone to
make concepts and ideas accessible to all is unsurpassed. He instilled the concept of team and motivated juniors to provide the best performances possible. He thought about the juniors holistically and was determined to get the best from them whilst caring deeply about their welfare. His encouraging words and comments (especially on Attackpoint) are valued by all.
He encouraged not just those interested in the elite performance but also those who show a flair for planning, coaching, or mapping, also passing on his skills and wealth of expertise in these areas.
Jon thoroughly deserves this award for his work with coaching Scottish junior orienteers. As a coach, he is held in the highest respect by all.
