Athlete Success

There have been many fantastic performances by both junior and senior athletes over the years.

In 1999 Yvette Baker became the first British World Orienteering Champion.  Since then, the British Team have won many more medals at Junior, University and Senior level. The following year, at the 2000 World Cup series, the British Team won gold, four silver and three bronze medals with Heather Monro coming 3rd overall in the series.  The Men’s Relay team of Steven Hale, Stephen Palmer and Jamie Stevenson won gold at the Nordic Champs in 2001.

In 2002 the women's relay team (Rachael Elder, Sarah Rollins, Helen Bridle and Hannah Wotton) won the gold relay medal at the World University Champs. In the same competition Oliver Johnson won an individual bronze.

In 2003 Jamie Stevenson became a World Champion (sprint distance) and the men (Daniel Marston, Jon Duncan and Jamie Stevenson) won a bronze in the relay. The following year Alison O’Neil won a bronze medal (long distance) in the Junior World Champs. 2005 not only was the year that Heather Monro won two bronze medals, one at the World Champs (sprint distance) and the other at the World Games (middle distance), but also during the World Cup series, Matt Crane won a silver medal and Helen Winskill won bronze.

In 2004 the women's relay team (Rachael Elder, Mhairi Mackenzie, Helen Palmer and Hannah Wootton)  won silver at the World University Champs.

In 2006 Helen Bridle won an individual silver medal and gold medal in the relay (with Rachael Elder, Mhairi Mackenzie and Helen Palmer) at the World University Champs. Jamie Stevenson collected his third World Champs medal, this time a bronze (middle distance) and he also won silver at the Europeans.

In 2008, the Men's Relay team of Jon Duncan, Graham Gristwood and Jamie Stevenson won gold at the World Championships.  Scott Fraser also won his first medal, a bronze at the World University Championships.   Kristian Jones also won his first medal, gold at the European Youth Orienteering Champs (Sprint Distance).

Two years later in 2010, Graham Gristwood won a silver medal at the World Cup final (sprint distance) after also picking up a bronze medal at the World University Champs (middle distance).  Scott Fraser also won medal at the World University Champs, silver (sprint distance), and Kristian Jones won a silver at the Junior World Champs (sprint distance).  Lucy Butt won her first international medal, a bronze at the European Youth Champs (long distance).

In 2013 Scott Fraser added to his collection of medals and won silver in the World Champs (sprint distance), and so far in 2014 Catherine Taylor has won her first international individual medal, a bronze in the Europeans (long distance).
