Suitable as training for experienced orienteers only*, two of the three hardest courses from the event held here in March 2020 are available to run as "virtual" courses, in your own time and at your own risk. The MapRunF app is used to record control visits and timings using your phone's GPS, after which you can compare your results to others online.
*If you're looking for something better suited to beginner/intermediate orienteers, you might like the permanent courses at Crickley Hill Country Park (just south of Cheltenham), Pittville Park (Cheltenham), Gloucester Park (Gloucester) or High Meadow (Symonds Yat, Forest of Dean). There are also lots of "MapRun courses" which are mostly in urban areas and involve visiting as many checkpoints as you can in 1 hour - these are all listed on the MapRun Gloucestershire website
Minchinhampton in 2020 was a Middle Distance race, so these courses are short and sharp, with plenty of controls to test your fine navigation at speed, and your ability to orientate yourself quickly out of controls to get going in the right direction for the next one. The maps for the event were printed double-sided, so make sure you've downloaded and printed both parts for your course before you set off!
For full details, including the exact location and where to find the courses in the MapRunF app, see the Minchinhampton 2020 courses page on MapRun Gloucestershire (or from the "Courses" page, you can find these courses in the Forest Orienteering Training section).
For more information, especially if you've not used the MapRunF app before, check out the rest of the MapRun Gloucestershire website... Here you'll find a Getting Started guide, the leaderboard for these courses and details of any upcoming events on nearby MapRunF courses.
