These three regional squads deliver high-quality training opportunities for 15 to 18 year-olds throughout the winter and into spring. Each Talent Squad is run by two volunteer managers, but additional support comes from a wide range of sources in the form of local organisers, course planners, control hangers, technical coaches, minibus drivers, and those willing to cook for a hoard of hungry athletes!
As we start to plan the 2025-26 winter training program, we are inviting people from a range of backgrounds, with a range of skills, to get in touch with the Performance Pathway Manager, Pippa Archer, or one of the current Talent Squad Managers (details below), to find out more or register interest in volunteering opportunities with the L3 Talent Squads. We are keen to expand the pool of people who support the Talent Program and contribute to the development of the next generation of elite orienteers.
If you wish to register an interest in volunteering opportunities, please contact parcher@britishorienteering.org.uk by Thursday 4 September 2025.
At this time, we are also seeking to recruit a new Talent Squad Manager for Talent Scotland. The person will work alongside Judy Bell, and will replace Jon Musgrave, who has been a stalwart of the Scotland coaching team for many years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jon for all his hard work and acknowledge the enormous contribution he has made to GB orienteering through his involvement with the Scottish Squads.
The L3 Talent Scotland will be responsible for the management, implementation, and coordinated delivery of the Level 3 component of the Performance Pathway.
The successful post-holder will be expected to coordinate with the other Talent Managers and the Performance Pathway Manager to implement the Level 3 component of the Performance Pathway. They will support the athletes to prepare effectively for competitions, access appropriate training opportunities and identify support services that they may require.
Below is the full job description.
Anyone interested in the role is invited to contact Pippa Archer by Thursday 4 September 2025 to discuss the role or declare an expression of interest.
