Scotland is hoping to add to its already packed portfolio of events in the coming years, submitting bids for both the World Orienteering Championships for Edinburgh in 2022 and the Island Games for Orkney in 2023.
In May the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) visited Edinburgh following its shortlisting for the Championships earlier in the year. EventScotland and partners City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Orienteering and British Orienteering made Scotland’s case over a busy few days during which representatives from the IOF were shown the world-class venues and facilities that would make the capital the perfect host.
A final decision will be made on Monday 6 August 2018.
Orkney also moved a step closer to making their bid for the Island Games a reality after it received the backing of the International Island Games Association Executive Committee (IIGA) in April. Following an inspection visit to Orkney by an IIGA delegation in November 2017, a report was presented at the Committee meeting at the end of March and the IIGA has recommended that Orkney can successfully host the 2023 event.
A final decision will be made by the 24 member islands shortly.
