British Orienteering is pleased to announce the selection criteria and races for the 2019 international season. 

The overall aim of selection is to maximise the opportunity to gain medals at World and Junior World Orienteering Championships and to create sustainable success by using these and other recognised competitions to develop and prepare athletes for future international success.

There have been no major changes to the criteria from 2018 with the exception of new selection races. Additionally, there is an updated and simplified appeals procedure.

Eligibility

To be eligible to be selected into the team to participate in a competition, each athlete will need to meet the eligibility requirements specified which include:

• Hold a valid British passport and be eligible to represent Great Britain in accordance with the rules of the International Orienteering Federation;
• Hold a valid and current membership of British Orienteering;
• Meet the age class requirements of the competition on 31st December in the year of competition;

Senior Selection Races

Performance and performance data from the races listed below will be taken into account when athletes are considered for selection:

• World Orienteering Championships 2018/2019
• European Orienteering Championships 2018
• IOF World Cups 2018/2019
• JWOC 2018/2019;
• JK 2019 Individual Races
• World Orienteering Championships Test Races (provisionally 5^th – 7^th July 2019 nr Halden, Norway)

Junior Selection Races

There are six selection race opportunities for juniors over three weekends:

• March 10^th: UKOL Northern Championships Weekend (Long) – Wharncliffe, Yorkshire
• March 23^rd - 24^th: SROC Red Rose Classic weekend (Sprint, Middle) – Lancaster University, Lancashire & Hampsfell, Cumbria
• April 19^th – April 21^st: JK Individual Races (Sprint, Middle, Long) – SCOA (Aldershot Garrison; Windmill Hill; Cold Ash)
