Volunteer of the Year Award Winner 2022: Stephen Richards (South East Lancashire Orienteering Club)

British Orienteering are pleased to announce the 2022 Volunteer of the Year winner as Stephen Richards from South East Lancashire Orienteering Club.

This award is in recognition of the outstanding volunteer work carried out by individuals up and down the country to ensure the delivery of a vibrant Orienteering scene.

Stephen Richards (South East Lancashire Orienteering Club)

As an invaluable and integral member of SELOC for a number of years, Stephen has worked effortlessly to organise multiple events, spending quality time ensuring maps are all up to date and mentoring new mappers within the club. He has brought his knowledge and passion to the committee and has been described as the “glue that brings us all together…although he will deny it!”

He’ll often plan higher-level regional events and is supportive of new planners at the club leading them to feel confident and valued as they become more involved, benefitting the club long term.

Always on hand to speak to newcomers of orienteering, he helps put them at ease and his soul focus is to ensure everyone has a great time and succeeds.

Congratulations to Stephen on your award! You can learn more about South East Lancs Orienteering Club online.
