The Caddihoe UKOL 2017 Multi-day event takes place this weekend

Saturday 2 September 2017
Caddihoe Day 1 (UKOL) and South West Middle Distance Championships

Sunday 3 September 2017
Caddihoe Day 2 (UKOL) and South West Long Distance Championships

Hosted by Cornwall Orienteering Club (KERNO); The Caddihoe Trophy Event is a long-standing South West Orienteering Association fixture but open to all orienteers.

Traditionally it has been a 2-day event, with a chasing start on day 2 based on a competitor’s Day 1 time. This year the Caddihoe age class trophies will be decided on the cumulative timings on a competitor’s Day 1 and Day 2 times on the L/A courses. In addition, the Day 1 and 2 Level B events will provide the competition to decide the South West Orienteering Association Middle and Long Distance Champions as well as British Orienteering and UK Orienteering League 2017 ranking points.

Hayle Towans dunes provide a highly technical and runnable venue for these races.

Chris Moncaster, Chairman at Cornwall Orienteering Club, says:

On behalf of Cornwall Orienteering Club, I extend a very warm welcome to all competitors who have entered the SWOA Caddihoe Trophy event that will be held this weekend in the far west of our county and country. In the past, this has been a 2 race event over a weekend with a chasing start on the 2nd day. This year we have changed the format so that the Caddihoe age class trophies will be decided on the cumulative timings on a competitor’s Day 1 and Day 2 times on the L/A courses. In addition, the Day 1 and 2 Level B events will provide the competition to decide the SWOA Middle and Long Distance Champions as well as BOF and UKOL ranking points. Our competitors are thus assured of a first class event, especially as Hayle Towans dunes provide a highly technical and runnable venue for these races. Our event centre is located within the dunes close to the starts. We have camping available close by and O Nosh and Ultrasport will be present.

To get the competitors warmed up on dune navigation there is be an informal evening training event on the Holywell Dunes complex ahead of Days 1 & 2. Any viewers of Poldark will certainly recognise the dune complex and adjacent Holywell Beach.

For added variety, and to make it more worthwhile for competitors to make it this far west KERNO will also host an urban race at Cornwall College Camborne Campus on the evening of Day 1. This event is part of the SEOUL. Finally, on Saturday evening the SWOA AGM will be held at in the Main Hall Poole Academy is adjacent to the Camborne Campus urban race.

To put so much on has stretched our small club to the limits but we are confident that those 380 plus competitors who have made the journey will be treated to a high-quality event in every sense. We can’t promise the cast of Poldark to be present but we can guarantee the setting.”
