CompassSport Cup/Trophy Final hosted by Forth Valley Orienteers at Tulliallan was a great success

A big thank you and well done to Forth Valley Orienteers for a fabulous weekend of the Stirling City Race (SOUL 10) and CompassSport Cup & Trophy Final 2022.

The rain on Saturday didn’t dent the enthusiasm of those enjoying the delights of the streets of Stirling with over 290 competitors taking part.  Thanks go to Jon Cross (planner), Chris Smithard (controller) and Marie Claire Shankland (organiser) and all the other volunteers who made the event possible.

On Sunday the CompassSport Cup & Trophy Final for 2022 was held at Devilla Wood and Tulliallan with an amazing assembly and arena location at Tulliallan Police College.

Over 680 competitors from 22 qualifying clubs from all over the UK congregated to compete for the CompassSport Cup (Large Clubs) and Compass Sport Trophy (Small Clubs) following various qualifying heats.  A large club is determined as one which has more than 126 British Orienteering  members between the ages of 12 and 85.  A small club is one which has less than 125 members between the ages of 12 and 85.

Each competing club gains points from the highest placing members of their club on each course with limits on the number of counting runners on each course.  The top 25 counting runners provide the score for the large clubs and the top 13 counting runners provide the score for the small clubs.

On Sunday all competitors were treated to a gloriously sunny, if cold, day which picked out the autumn colours around the arena.

The CompassSport Cup Final was won by South Yorkshire Orienteering Club who scored 2425 points closely followed by Forth Valley Orienteers in second place only 6 points behind

In the CompassSport Trophy Final there was a Scottish first, second and third with Interlopers Orienteering Club lifting the trophy with 1256 points.

Well done to all who competed in the event and a huge thank you to Mark Wood (planner), David Esson (GRAMP – controller), Neil Polwart (organiser) and all those who volunteered and made this day/ weekend possible.
