British Orienteering are delighted to announce The Silva Trophy Award winner as Ben Mitchell from Swansea Bay Orienteering Club.
The Silva Trophy Award is presented for the best map produced by a professional mapper.
Ben was responsible for designing a map of Singleton Park, which was based on 1-meter DTM and DSM LiDAR data, as well as OS Mastermap for the JK Sprints.
Comprising of three sections, the map included:
- Classic complex university buildings, which posed many minimum width challenges, with parallel rows of uncrossable features.
- Open parkland, which required contour generalisation.
- Ornamental gardens, which were carefully drawn to clearly show the gaps in hedges and the different runnabilities of the vegetation.
