British Orienteering are delighted to announce The Silva Award winner Neville Myers from Yorkshire & Humberside Orienteering Association.

This award recognises the significant contribution of a person or persons to orienteering through ‘field’ activities over a number of years rather than committee work.

Nev Myers (Yorkshire & Humberside Orienteering Association)

Nev started orienteering in 1971, when he was 14 and quickly became hooked onto the sport. Over the years he started helping out more with planning events and map surveying. He went on to win junior races at both British Championships & the JK and ultimately was selected for international events. In his later teens, he became a member of the Ebor Management Committee and continued to compete in the sport for many years. He has been Chairman since 1999.

Passionate about dedicating his time help others, Nev has been incredibly supportive of junior orienteers and has spent countless hours mentoring and organising and delivering coaching opportunities for hundreds of young athletes, on an individual and group level. This led him to helping the England Junior Home Internationals Team from 2008 until recently.

Speaking of Nev, one of his peers said: “Due to his unfaltering commitment to the sport, Nev has helped young people thrive and have the best start at their own orienteering journeys.”
