Orienteering is an exciting outdoor challenge that puts both your body and brain to the test. Using a map, participants find their way to checkpoints located around an area, choosing their own routes as they go.With no set paths to follow, participants use quick thinking and decision-making to find the best way between checkpoints!
Orienteering can take place in a variety of settings, from woodlands and sand dunes to parks, college campuses and city centres. There are two main types of orienteering course:
Linear Course
A traditional form of orienteering where participants find the controls in a specified order. There is no time limit, allowing participants to complete the course at their own pace.
Score Course
Participants aim to visit as many checkpoints as possible within a set time limit. This format is great for trying orienteering for the first time, as it reduces the pressure of finding controls in a specific order.
