Report an incident or concern
At British Orienteering, we want everyone to be able to take part in our sport in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
If something has happened, nearly happened, or has caused you concern, please tell us. You do not need to decide whether it is serious enough to report.
In an emergency: If someone is in immediate danger, seriously injured or requires urgent medical attention, contact the emergency services first. Once the immediate situation has been dealt with, please also report the incident to British Orienteering.
What should be reported?
Please report matters including:
Accidents, injuries and incidents where first aid or medical assistance was required
Near misses or unsafe situations where someone could have been injured
Incidents involving a missing, overdue or vulnerable participant
Safeguarding or welfare concern involving a child or adult
Bullying, harassment, discrimination or abuse
Breaches of codes of conduct or concerns about poor practice
Bullying, harassment, discrimination, abuse or inappropriate behaviour
Aggressive, threatening or concerning behaviour
Anything else you think British Orienteering should know about
If you are unsure, report it.
It is always better to tell us and let us decide if further action is needed.

Use our online form to tell British Orienteering about an incident, near miss or concern
You do not need to know which category your report falls into, we will make sure it reaches the appropriate person.
A QR code for the form can also be displayed at events so that officials, volunteers and participants can report incidents easily.

If you concern related to the safety or welfare of a child or adult, you can also contact the British Orienteering safeguarding team directly.

Safeguarding concerns should be reported whether they arise within orienteering or elsewhere where they involve, or may affect, one of our members or participants.
You do not need to decide whether abuse has taken place before reporting a concern.
Report what you know and the safeguarding team will determine the appropriate next steps.
