Thinking of joining us? To get the most out of your membership and the orienteering community we recommend that you join your local club (and their Association) as well as British Orienteering.
Most clubs organise training opportunities and social activities for their members so it is a great way to improve your orienteering skills and to make new friends. You can find details of your nearest Club using the Club finder.
However, if you would prefer to just become a member of British Orienteering, simply select BOF when you are asked to choose a Club and Association to join.

Join British Orienteering for just £2 until the end of the year! Part-year membership is now live

If you’re new to British Orienteering, you can take advantage of our reduced part-year membership fees for 2026. 

To qualify as a new member, you must not have been a member of British Orienteering during any of the previous four calendar years (2022–2025).

The 2026 part-year membership fees are:

  • Seniors: £5
  • Young Adults: £3
  • Juniors: £2
  • Families: £13

The £13 family membership is available to all members of the family who are new members and not already on the British Orienteering database.

Please note that new memberships cannot be merged with existing memberships.

Looking ahead to 2027: Anyone joining as a new member during 2026 will need to renew their membership for 2027 from 1 January 2027.

Important information about joining multiple clubs

Members may belong to a maximum of two clubs only if one of the clubs is closed (e.g., a home club and a university club).

Please note:

  • The system will display only one club as your primary club.
  • The secondary club will be recorded in the membership notes for reference.
  • If a member wishes to switch between their two clubs to competitively race, under these circumstances, this can only be arranged through the office. We do require 7-days notice before the event to do this.
  • Payments to the second club must be paid directly to the club.  There are no additional fees to BOF.
  • We must be notified by the member and the club that the payment has been made directly to the second club, to add this information to their membership.

We will also not share any other personal data you provide to us that is not Membership Data.

COMMUNICATION WITH MEMBERS: British Orienteering will endeavour to use electronic media for all communications with members including company business. Members who want to be communicated with via printed media must notify the National Office.
