| Description: | If you aren't familiar with the Score event format ...... In a conventional orienteering event each course consists of a set list of controls that have to be visited in the specified order. In a Score event there are controls scattered around the competition area and you have to visit as many as you can within the time limit. Each control has a points value – in this event all the controls are worth 10 points. You have to decide which controls to visit in which order within the time limit. If you exceed the time limit you start losing points – in this event the penalty for lateness is 20 points (equivalent to two controls!) for each minute or part minute that you are late getting to the Finish. Score events involve the extra challenges of (a) deciding the best sequence of controls to visit and (b) judging whether you have time to visit that one last control and still get back to the Finish in time to avoid losing points due to lateness. Note: Unlike CLOK's New Year Team Score event, this event is for individuals rather than teams and there will not be any mass starts. Courses: 60 minute score, 40 minute score and Yellow (linear) course Map: 1:7,500 scale. A4 size. Updated in 2019 using Lidar by Paul Taylor and re-surveyed by Dennis Hooton. The maps will be printed on waterproof paper. Control descriptions will be printed on the map, and loose copies will also be available. |
