| Description: | Mike Nelson was a founder member of BOK when it was formed on 15th December 1971 and became a mainstay of the club. He had at least two stints as club Chair and, together with Dudley Budden, was responsible for many of the original BOK maps, the successors to which we (and NGOC) are using to this day. Mike won the Chichester award for mapping in 1982 for his map of Brierley. Mike was also instrumental, together with Peter Foster, in bringing SI electronic punching to BOK events. Mike died on 10th March 2007 and it was decided that the annual BOK Trot event, which had been running since 1973, should be named in his memory. This event is the 14th occurrence of the Mike Nelson BOK Trot. As this event is hosting both the SW Long Distance Championships and the Yvette Baker Qualifier, Juniors in the M/W18 and M/W16 age classes will unfortunately have to choose which competition they wish to be competitive in. See above for the mapping of courses to age classes. Juniors in the M/W14 age classes and younger can be competitive in both the SW Championships and the Yvette Baker competition if they run the correct course for their age class. Younger Juniors wishing to be competitive in both competitions should enter the Yvette Baker course but also tick the SW Champs eligibility box. SW Long Distance Championships Entry for the SW Long Distance Championships is by age class. Competitors must be members of British Orienteering and a SWOA club to be eligible for the Championships and should tick the SW Champs eligibility box when entering. Competitors choosing to ‘run-up’, e.g. an M16 running M18, or a W35 running W21, must enter the age class in which they wish to be competitive, not their actual age class. Championship certificates will be awarded to the winners of each age class. Yvette Baker Trophy and Shield Entry for the Yvette Baker competition (Trophy and Shield) is by Colour Coded course (YB Green, YB Light Green, YB Orange or YB Yellow) – note that these are at the end of the list of courses/classes presented in Pre-Entries. Competitors must be M/W18 or younger and should enter the course applicable to the eligibility requirements defined in https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/yvettebaker. Talk to your club’s Junior Coordinator to ensure you enter the correct course. Yvette Baker competitors from the same club, on the same course, will be required to start at least 4 minutes apart. Runners may pair up on the Yellow course if they meet the criteria set out in the rules and stay together throughout. Those not competing in the SW Champs or Yvette Baker competitions: Competitors not wishing or not eligible to be competitive in the SW Championships or the Yvette Baker competition may enter any course excluding those prefixed YB. |
