Grid reference:ST624763
Parking information:Assembly is at the Glenside Campus - UWE Bristol - Main Reception, Blackberry Hill, Stapleton, Bristol BS16 1DD https://what3words.com/props.jump.leave Vehicles should enter the Glenside Campus via the western 'Main Entrance', rather than the ‘White Entrance’ further east that leads to the NHS facilities. If travelling by car, please park in Car Park 3, which will be sign-posted and can be found on the map of the campus: https://www.uwe.ac.uk/life/campus-and-facilities/glenside- campus/glenside-campus-map https://what3words.com/manliness.ankle.spoke As required by UWE, there will be a £3 charge per car which will be collected and remitted by BOK to UWE: If you intend to travel by car, to save us having to handle cash on the day, when entering online please enter your vehicle registration number and pay your £3 as part of your entry fee. The charge is per car not per passenger, so the more of you that can car share the lower the cost as well as your carbon footprint. We will then check off your car’s VRN on the day against the list of entered details and if your car is not on the list, we will require the payment of your £3 on the day so we can remit that to UWE and prevent your car being subjected to a Parking Charge Notice (PCN), i.e. a parking fine from UWE Bristol (or their car park operator)
Dog rules:No animals or pets of any kind, except assistance dogs, are allowed on UWE premises. As far as the remainder of the area is concerned normal conditions apply.

Details

Description:Part of BOK's Local event series, scoring towards Club Senior League and Junior League. For the shorter courses (White & Yellow), these will be in picturesque campus grounds and other grass/unpaved areas. Trail shoes with good grips (but not spikes due to roads/pavements) should be suitable and, depending on the weather conditions, running shorts and vests should be sufficient. The longer courses (Orange to Blue inclusive), in addition to the campus parkland, will also visit the Frome Gorge/Oldbury Court Estate and include rougher terrain and urban footpaths; for these courses full body cover is advised (i.e. no shorts or vests). Orienteers should expect to encounter seasonal vegetation in the woods.

Courses

Course description:A new map: “Frome Gorge West” 1:4,000 with 2.5m contours. The Frome Gorge area is a steep sided gorge with a river running through it, and includes a number of fields, small forest paths and large crags and cliffs; while the optimum routes steer away from the largest of the crags and cliffs, regardless, they should not be crossed under any circumstances. You should approach any cliffs and crags from below and not attempt to jump or climb down from above them. The River Frome, currently extremely low, must nevertheless only be crossed by mapped bridges. Wading is not permitted, and the river bed is marked out-of-bounds. Whistles are required for U16s taking part and recommended for adults. In the case of inclement weather, additional clothing requirements may be stipulated, e.g. cagoules in the case of cold and wind/rain. Please watch out for notifications prior to the event. The longer courses may have route choices which include busy roads with limited pavements in some places. Participants must take extra care for road traffic when running near roads where there is limited pavement space and not take undue risks particularly on blind corners. The shorter courses should also be suitable for adult beginners orienteering either as individuals or as part of a group. The Blue course has 28 controls. Entrants to this course should use a dibber than can record this number of checkpoints.
