Parking information:Assembly is at Chepstow Leisure Centre, Welsh Street, Chepstow, NP16 5LX. Entry to the car park will be off Welsh Street at https://what3words.com/attaching.panoramic.doubt The leisure centre has two car parks, please use the car park that you reach first, under the covered canopy approximately 100m from the entrance road. There should be plenty of available parking but please park your car thoughtfully and respectfully in one of the available marked bays. The car park is very close to the competition area so there should be a marshal, please follow their instructions at all times. In the unlikely event that when you arrive the car park is full you could use the lower car park but please park respectfully as the leisure centre is busy with customers in the evening. Please ensure you comply with any parking restrictions that might be in force. Please also be mindful of runners that may be crossing the car park. Chepstow has other car parks but these are much further away and will be in the middle of the competition area.
Dog rules:Dogs are welcome and must be kept on a short lead and ensure you clean up after them in the usual manner.

Details

Description:Organised and planned by NGOC, as part of BOK's 2026 Urban Series. 10 events held most Wednesday evenings from late April to early July. Short, Medium and Long courses available, plus A Junior course. Best 6 results on each course score for series prizes, with separate male and female competitions. Juniors (under 16) can only compete on the Junior course. The Junior course will visit the newly mapped woods north of the leisure centre and Piercefield Park and so will not entail interacting with any busy roads. All courses will start on the field adjacent to Chepstow Leisure Centre. The Short course should be suitable for adult beginners orienteering either as individuals or as part of a group. The Junior course, as the name suggests, should be suitable for Juniors, and families, with little or no prior experience of orienteering but a willingness to come along and have a go at the sport. A sense of direction is advisable or failing that, an ability to use a compass.

Courses

Course description:Map: The map “Chepstow” will be 1:5,000 with 5 m contours, and has been updated by Gill and Andrew Stott in 2026. The map will be waterproof size A3 with courses overprinted. Loose control descriptions will also be available. Newcomers are advised to familiarise themselves with uncrossable features and out of bounds (OOB) symbols. If in doubt, you should ask at Assembly. https://www.maprunner.co.uk/map-symbols/ Terrain: Urban footpaths, residential streets, playing fields and other grass/unpaved areas. Road shoes with good grips (but not spikes), running shorts and vests should be suitable. The junior and short courses have a significant off-road element therefore, if the week before has been wet, you may benefit from trail shoes. The junior and short course will run through woodland and long grass, competitors could choose to wear full leg cover and it is advisable to check for ticks afterwards. The longer courses will have route choices which may include busy roads and roads with no pavements in some places and running towards potential oncoming traffic. The Medium and Long courses will cross the main road A48 and there are two underpasses and two crossing islands marked specifically and to be used for safety. Please do not cross the A48 at any other point. The Welsh/English border runs through the map and the speed limit on the A48 changes from 20mph to 30mph by the lower island crossing (and increases to 50mph nearer the river). Participants must take extra care for road traffic when running on roads where there is limited to no pavement, and not take undue risk when crossing, particularly on blind corners or busy roads.
