Courses

Course description:Please enter by class. M/W35 and above may enter a younger class. M/W20 and below may enter an older class. Light Green, Orange, Yellow and White courses are available for novices. Map: • Sprint specification (ISSprOM 2019). • 1:4,000 scale with 2.5m contours. • Updated by Scott Bailey in 2023 to reflect late Spring vegetation • Waterproof size A3 with courses overprinted. Double-sided map for the longer courses. • Control descriptions on map and loose. Text description for White and Yellow. Others pictorial. The area is largely forested, but has been mapped at 1:4,000 scale using sprint specification symbols to ease legibility due to its complexity. Special symbols X Bench O Large concrete drainage blocks There is a large pipeline that can usually be crossed underneath, where there are mapped paths. The pillar symbol is used for concrete pillars that either stand alone or are holding up pipelines. Terrain: The competition area is the forested, steep side of a river valley. There are complex old quarry and mining works with many cliffs. Where the cliffs are marked with a thick black line, they are uncrossable and must be avoided. If in doubt, go round them. More dense undergrowth areas are best avoided for optimal route choice. Courses: Courses will be planned in accordance with the rules for middle distance events, ie less than half the length of the normal, long distance courses.
