| Parking information: | Assembly will be at the University of Bristol (UOB) Indoor Sports Centre, Tyndall Avenue, Bristol BS8 1TP. Entry is via the main entrance at the front of the building at https://what3words.com/frost.keep.cost There is no dedicated event car parking, so if you plan to come by private car you are recommended to park in one of the nearby public car parks, for example, one of the following, and then walk to the Assembly: • Trenchard Street long stay car park • West End long stay car park • Clifton Down Shopping Centre There should be some limited on street car parking nearby but residents’ parking restrictions apply in most of the area and, for those areas where you can park, charges may well apply depending on the timings. Please read the signs and comply with them or face the consequences. If you cycle, there are multiple bike racks in the vicinity of Assembly. If you use public transport, then the nearest train station is Clifton Down, which is approx. 15 mins walking distance away. Bristol Temple Meads is approx. 40 mins walking distance and (unless you take a bus or catch the Severn Beach line train to Clifton Down) would also involve a climb of about c.150m. There are several bus routes passing nearby. The closest of which is the U1 (Bristol Unibus) which during University term time runs from the city centre and stops within 50m of Assembly: https://journeyplanner.travelwest.info/service/38-U1-_-y10-%25/direction/outbound?ui=ui More information regarding local bus travel is available at: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/bristol- bath-and-west |
| Dog rules: | Dogs are not permitted on any part of the UOB campus, unless an assistance animal, in which case please inform the Organiser or Series Coordinator in advance of the event. |
| Description: | Part of BOK's Urban Series, with 10 events held most Wednesday evenings from late April to early July. Short, Medium and Long courses available. Best 6 results on each course score for series prizes, with separate male and female competitions. The Short course should be suitable for adult beginners; help and advice available on the day. There will be Junior Sprint couse, which is also suitable for family groups to participate. Juniors (under 16) must only enter the Junior Sprint course; this course is entirely off road or will only involve crossing roads that have traffic management in place that induces low speeds (e.g. 15mph or less) so that Juniors can run unaccompanied. The University have very generously allowed us access to the Indoor Sports Centre for Assembly and Download. There will be toilets available but bear in mind that these will be shared with the students so please be respectful of our hosts. You will be able to leave personal belongings at Assembly, but anything left at is done so at your own risk and you should not leave any valuable items unattended. First aid will be available at Assembly as well as advice for newcomers. |

| Course description: | Terrain: A mixture of feeder roads, paths, the university campus and, for the non-Junior courses, nearby residential areas of Tyndalls Park, Kingsdown & St Michael’s Hill. Grassy slopes may be slippery if it has been raining. Road shoes with a good grip (but no spikes) and running shorts should be suitable. Map: All courses: 1:4,000 scale with 5m contours size SRA4 (extended A4) Waterproof with courses overprinted. Most if not all courses will require a map flip, so expect a double- sided map. Loose control descriptions will also be available. Runners must not enter any of the residential buildings except for marked underpasses. Newcomers are advised to familiarise themselves with uncrossable features and out of bounds symbols (if in doubt ask for help at Assembly. Safety: The Start & Finish locations are both within 50m of Assembly but will require the crossing of Tyndall Avenue, which has a speed limit of 20mph so any Juniors participating will need to be escorted to and from there by a responsible adult. Long and Medium courses will cross some busy roads. They are planned so that these can and should be crossed at safe crossing points and there will be timed-out crossings to discourage anyone from being tempted to recklessly rush across these roads. For all the courses, orienteers should be aware of fast-moving scooters and cyclists and be respectful to other pedestrians, particularly around the university buildings. The Junior course will be confined to the University precinct so although no major roads will be crossed, awareness of cars, pedestrians, scooters and cyclists is still required. The area is popular with dog walkers, but most dogs should be under control and on leads but exceptionally they may not be so caution may be required in their presence. All the roads in the course area have a maximum 20mph speed limit, however, participants should be aware that not all drivers will comply with the required speed limits. There is no safety bearing as such, but in the unlikely event that anyone becomes hopelessly lost, please ask for directions back to the University of Bristol Indoor Sports Centre. The locals and students are typically friendly and there should be plenty of them about to ask for assistance. Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. If you are traveling alone with relevant pre-existing medical conditions, you may wish to notify the organiser. |
